On Monday, March 6, CUPE 2073 set up picket lines at 2197 Riverside Drive (near Bank Street). The Local is comprised of over 200 workers, employed by the Canadian Hearing Society at 20 locations across Ontario. There are 23 members in Ottawa. 90% of these workers are women, many of whom are themselves deaf or hard of hearing.
What are the issues that have forced these workers; ASL translators, Social Workers, and Counsellors away from their jobs helping those in our community who are deaf and hard of hearing?
– A contract that expired March 31, 2013;
– No wage increase for four years, although executive pay continues to rise; and
– Concessions – a major claw back on their sick leave benefits!

- Join them at their picket line anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. They are a very small group who need our help.
