Anti Austerity People’s Assembly November 14th 2025 6pm

The Ottawa CUPE District Council is pleased join a group of diverse organizations to support the Anti Austerity People’s Assembly being held at the Bronson Centre on November 14th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Registration is at the end of this post.

From the lead organizers at the Council of Canadians:

On November 4th, the federal government released a budget that is nothing short of disastrous.

The federal budget’s “Harper-style” cuts will mean $56 billion less for public services and 40,000 layoffs for federal workers, nearly half of whom live in the Ottawa-Gatineau area. Billions for weapons contracts and corporate tax breaks, meanwhile, set the stage for even deeper cuts to healthcare, climate action, and other vital public services in the future.   .

These cuts will affect all of us, but the National Capital Region will be hit especially hard. Coming from a Liberal government that just months ago promised to “cap, not cut” public sector jobs, many are feeling betrayed.

The writing is on the wall. It’s time to fight back. That’s why the Council of Canadians has launched a campaign to Stop the Cuts.

Join us this Friday, November 14 at 6pm for a “Stop the Cuts!” Assembly, featuring Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives economist David Macdonald, Karen Cocq (Co-Executive Director, Migrant Rights Network) and CAPE President Nathan Prier.

“Stop the Cuts!” A People’s Assembly
🗓️ Friday, November 14
🕕 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
📍 Bronson Centre, Mac Hall, 211 Bronson Avenue, Ottawa
    Masks required

We’ll hear from workers and community members directly impacted by the cuts, analyze the budget and the forces driving the austerity agenda, and build strategies to resist this corporate agenda. We will also have discussion groups for a chance for participants to connect with one another and build the groundwork for a popular response to protect our communities and public services.

As accessibility is important to us and part of our event planning, this will be a mask required event. Due to the levels of respiratory and COVID-19 cases this season, we ask that all participants wear a mask for the duration of the event. Masks (KN95 or higher) will be provided at the registration table. As an added measure, there will also be air purification and circulation in the room.

In terms of venue accessibility, the front of the building is all one level, with no steps. It is accessible for both wheelchairs and mobility devices. Mac hall is one level (apart from the stage), with accessible buttons to enter the room. There is a fully serviced elevator in Bronson Centre, with accessible washrooms.
